Although I didn’t mention it in my notes, I believe this was one a handful of parties thrown by the good folks behind the TCPunk Message Board. I reckon I was too caught up in recording and drinking to bother with little things like footnotes. Subsequently, there was a bit of confusion as to the correct date – MNHS lists the date as 2002-08-01, whereas I had it listed as 2002-08-10. I opted to go with the MNHS listing, as I only recorded A-Bomb Nation and Ed Gein Fan Club once, and they are both mentioned during the Plate-O-Shrimp set, as well as Kontrol Panel.

It’s driving me nuts that wasn’t able to identify track 5, as I believed I own every record ever released by Mission Of Burma. That one has me stumped!

I never wrote down a date for this particular show, and although I also recorded the Housebreaker set, I don’t seem to have a date on that one either. Best guess is 2004, since I was still using the Sharp MD unit, and also because the band included a track from the ONoffON LP. I really needed to slow down a bit back then!

WARNING: This is a pretty lo-fi recording!

This was a brilliant idea – Plate-O-Shrimp turn their interpretive skills on one of the twin towns’ most beloved power trios. If only the sound quality of this recording was as good as the promise of this set. Ah well, it still stands as a testament to not only the band playing the songs, but the band that wrote them as well. Overall, an interesting representation of the Hüsker Dü power pop repertoire [post-Land Speed Record era], leading up to the transition from an independent band to a major label, bypassing the earlier hardcore era altogether.

Unfortunately, the details of this blazing little set escape my memory – that is a rare occurrence, but I reckon it’s bound to happen once in a while. I have the original cassette, but apparently I was too caught up in the moment to write down a date, so that’s all I’ve got for the time being.

One online source suggests that Plate-O-Shrimp played a Husker Du cover set at the Turf Club in St. Paul, Minnesota on March 31, 2017. That seems pretty unlikely, but if it did happen, I was definitely not there. 2005 seems more likely for this set.

The Sonic Archives Recording Company:
Small-run lathe-cut records made by hand – if you’re interested in a unique alternative to traditional factory-pressed records for your band or musical project.

Record Rescue Rehab Restore:
For the last 40 years or so, I’ve been buying and selling vintage vinyl records. If you’re looking for a hard-to-find vinyl record; or if you have a collection of records you would like to sell, please get in touch with me!

The DJ Hypnos Sound System:
Not your usual DJ – If you have a special event that calls for something a little different, how about a space-age blast of rhythm, soul, jazz and pop, at all speeds!

While you’re here, why not take a look around and check out some of the bands I’ve played in, and some early writing and visual art from the past few decades. You just never know…
