  • David Lester, Horde Of Two, K Records, KBOO, KPSU, live recordings, Portland, Vancouver, Wendy Atkinson

Hailing from Vancouver, B.C., Horde Of Two is my new favorite band that is *not* from Portland, although their ties with the PDX music scene run deeper than most would probably be aware of.

One of the tracks on bassist Wendy Atkinson‘s 2007 album, Pink Noise, was recorded at Portland college radio station KPSU. Guitarist David Lester‘s “other” band, Mecca Normal, has influenced a generation of post- “love rock” / “Riot Grrrl” / “alt” / …whatever duos, in terms of sound and expression, as well as formation. Of course, the literal and aptly named Horde Of Two is yet another two-person group that demonstrates the subtle strengths of minimalism, while not wearing any obvious influences on their collective sleeve(s). Their debut album, Guitar and Bass Actions, was released in March 2009 on K Records.

In June 2009, Horde Of Two embarked on a four-day PacNW tour that included stops in Olympia, Seattle, and three stops in Portland – two of which were live-in-studio appearances on local radio stations KBOO and KPSU. These video clips were recorded live on Friday, June 26, 2009, at HOMEland Gallery, in Portland, Oregon.
